‘Out of Line’April 21st – 27th 2016 MA Drawing group show at C4RD Centre for Recent Drawing
C4RD facilitates a program of exhibitions, online opportunities, residencies and writing about drawing, as well as providing studio space. Phillip Goss (sabbatical curator) introduced the aims of C4RD with its residency opportunities and small exhibition space. It facilitates making and displaying of work that would otherwise remain unrealized. ‘Out of Line’ reflected the multi-disciplinary drawing practice of the current MA Drawing students. An interesting discussion explored notions of curatorial decisions and who has ultimate control over how the work is presented to the viewer, artist or curator.
Guilia Andrew Alice Caragh was busy on instagram promoting the show. https://www.instagram.com/ma_drawing_wimbledon/ This is a copy of the pdf sent to Phillip Goss at The Centre for Recent Drawing C4RD prior to my tutorial. Rosalind Barker MA Drawing Unit 3 (Part time) Drawing Memory Installation In my final unit of MA Drawing I am using the most fundamental and familiar media that artists take for granted, pencil and paper to explore the boundaries of both what a linear drawing can be in conjunction with articulating and presenting 3D drawings of volume without mass. In this series of experimental drawings ‘Drawn to Rub’, graphite fine line and the technique of rubbing or frottage are used to reveal hidden qualities about domestic objects with out being a true reproduction. I would like to dispel the opinion that rubbed drawings are perceived of as passé or childish, easily accomplished by the masses but that it is an innovative method for the creation of a compelling contemporary drawing oeuvre. Mixing densities of graphite media and fragile papers ranging from tissue to 50grm weights, drawings are created that seem immaterial and not only hover between dimensions but between the presence and absence of the original object. I intend my drawings to consider object, memory and artifact with in the domestic realm. I am currently questioning the haptic nature of my work in both its creation and display in a gallery realm where touching of drawings is usually forbidden. ‘Wendy’ 2016. Graphite drawing on tissue paper H30 x W40 The textural qualities and mass of the original objects are summoned in the drawing while the fine line and fragility of my selected papers distorts the presentation and perception. ‘Cuddles’ 2015 Graphite on paper, Ento pins, Card.
