AiRM 2012 – Art in Romney Marsh

In 2012 Barker was exploring the process of re-interpreting her old faded childhood photographs as linear graphite drawings onto cloth, which was then washed, partially stitched and painted.

β€˜In this body of work I reference my Northern roots, filtering my findings to narrate a voyage through the lost historical cultural coordinates, The Girls Friendly Society, Walking Day, the Sunday School day trip, the Church School. By utilizing familiar old group photographs and leaving them faceless, I play on our need to be represented, to be there.’
