2012 Memory Box DrawingsMemory Box DrawingsIn 2012 Barker was exploring the process of re-interpreting her old faded childhood photographs as linear graphite drawings onto cloth, which was then washed, partially stitched, painted and displayed in found memory boxes. ‘In this body of work I reference my Northern roots, filtering my findings to narrate a voyage through the lost historical cultural coordinates, The Girls Friendly Society, Walking Day, the Sunday School day trip, the Church School. By utilizing familiar old group photographs and leaving them faceless, I play on our need to be represented, to be there.’ Awarded Pure Art Group Drawing Prize 2012-2013 | July 1967 | June 1961 | September 1959 | April 1965 | December 1984 | January 1975 |
