About 2017

A whisper, a sigh, a breath. I use compressed graphite and sharp pencils on delicate papers to interpret the transience and traces of human presence and absence.

Using the tactile methods of rubbing or raising the surface with fine line, I create drawings that may appear deceptively simple. The paper is coerced into behaving against its nature to reveal an image unrelated to its source, a drawn impression of absent form.

The white paper’s delicacy bruises and marks as I reconfigure flatness with touch to create a multifaceted ghost. A ghost that Alain Badiou suggests in drawing can accomplish the combined feat ‘of being and not being’.

“A little different from reality:

The difference that we make in what we see.”
